Kansas State is taking care of business against North Texas

Kansas State is one of my final four teams, because they score so well in the paint. They are taking care of business in the first round by exploiting North Texas’ smaller team.

They played great defense, holding North Texas to 5-24 shooting, and they went on a 19-3 run to build a huge lead. North Texas did hit their free throws, however. They were 13-18.

North Texas will need to shoot the ball better if they want to win. It is hard enough to win when Kansas State scores in the paint and contests every attempt on defense. It is impossible if North Texas cannot hit their jump shots. The game can be over very quickly in the second half if the trend continues. They also need to continue to get to the free throw-line, which has kept them in the game.

Kansas State is now in the driver’s seat. They need to continue to score inside, and the outside will open up. They hit a few 3-pointers at the end of the first half by kicking the ball out after North Texas collapsed towards the basket. On defense, they need to make every shot difficult for North Texas and keep them from gaining any momentum. Kansas State 41, North Texas 25.
